Leroy Wells, Criminal American Idol
Monday January 31, 2005
One of the most popular, though unsuccessful, performers in this week's "American Idol" shows watched himself on TV from an Alabama jail.
This is probably gonna get played out and be as annoying as William Hung soon, but on first viewing of this clip it's rather hilarious.

Exotic Travel Can Lead to Exotic Diseases
Monday January 31, 2005
Kevin Keogh spent the morning doing ordinary chores. By afternoon, he was climbing out the window of his Mercedes and onto the roof as it sped down a busy street. Standing on top of the car, his arms outstretched as if he were surfing, he jumped to his death.
What would make the chief financial officer for the city of Phoenix do something so bizarre?
A leading theory is a parasite he caught on a trip to Mexico several years earlier. The bug can live for years inside the body, travel to the brain and cause seizures and hallucinations — symptoms Keogh started suffering a few months after his trip.
Interesting story.

FireFoxIE
Monday January 31, 2005
Interesting guide in making your firefox browser look and feel like IE. Now here's my main question: Why the HELL would anyone want to do that??? Firefox is the best thing that ever happened to the internet, next to google and me. It's a little buggy, but come on we're dealing with version 1.0, what do you expect.

Jean Carlos Chera: 9 Year Old Soccer Star
Thursday January 27, 2005
Jean Carlos Chera currently weighs 35 kilograms and is 1,37 meter tall, and is already a key target for European top clubs FC Porto and Manchester United, who both want the youngster's entire family to move to Europe.
Chera, who plays football under the name Anderson, shares the field with players four years older than he is, and manages to surprise all spectators with his actions. ADAP chairman Adilson Batista Prado commented: "He's phenomenal, I've never seen anything like this before. He keeps on surprising. Everybody who sees him play is fascinated."
Pretty unbelievable if you're into soccer.

Military Reloads with Nanotech
Tuesday January 25, 2005
Sandia National Laboratories, the Los Alamos National Laboratory, and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory are researching how to manipulate the flow of energy within and between molecules, a field known as nanoenergentics, which enables building more lethal weapons such as "cave-buster bombs" that have several times the detonation force of conventional bombs such as the "daisy cutter" or MOAB (mother of all bombs).
Researchers can greatly increase the power of weapons by adding materials known as superthermites that combine nanometals such as nanoaluminum with metal oxides such as iron oxide, according to Steven Son, a project leader in the Explosives Science and Technology group at Los Alamos.
"The advantage (of using nanometals) is in how fast you can get their energy out," Son says.
Son says that the chemical reactions of superthermites are faster and therefore release greater amounts of energy more rapidly.
"Superthermites can increase the (chemical) reaction time by a thousand times," Son says, resulting in a very rapid reactive wave.
We're all going to die.

The Lexus LF-A
Thursday January 20, 2005
This is the Lexus LF-A, a supercar that looks certain to reach production in 2007 with over 500bhp, a 200mph top speed and a sub-£80,000 price tag. It will be the first high-performance Toyota since the Supra was axed in ’96.
The LF-A is a Porsche 911-sized front-engine, rear-drive supercar with a naturally aspirated engine derived from Toyota’s F1 project. Prototypes are currently believed to be running a compact V10, inspired by the current 3.0-litre unit that powers Toyota’s TF105 F1 car.
I can't decide what I think about it. A little ugly? Maybe ugly isn't the word, because it's pretty slick. Fine, I'll take it.

Now for the low low price of less than 40 thousand dollars COSTCO of all places is offering you an original Pablo Picasso Crayon drawing. Not only is it uglier than the farthest reaches of my ass, it costs more than most cars I consider "amazing." Is this someone at costco screwing around, or for real? Shipping and Handling included, what a deal!! Thanks Darren.

Car Race On Crowded Freeway
Monday January 10, 2005
This video is crazy and all but you know what I can't stand? It's the camera position which caused me to sit awkwardly while watching this trying to see farther over the dash in order to get a better view. I was somewhat nervous for this guy the whole time too, I doubt I could drive through traffic that well.

Now here's something I wish they had eons ago. Eons? Yes Eons. It stores a file for you up to 1 gig and sends an email to whoever you want with the link so they can download it. Remember when you could only send like 2 megabyte emails? This woulda been great. Even still most people have an attachment limit of 10 megs, so this could come in very handy.

French Urban Climber
Sunday January 09, 2005
This crazy bastard climbed up the side of a giant building (210 meters) with no ropes, supports, or fear. It's probably some of the craziest shit I've seen. Took him 13 hours. He's also scaled the Sears Tower in Chicago if you don't already think he's nuts.

update: Mark, who thinks he's super smart points out the video itself says he did it in 35 minutes. I shouldn't believe everything I read. Not to mention 13 hours is absurd.
