Insane Motorist Fights Bike Courier
Monday January 30, 2006
"A citizen journalist snapped a jaw-dropping set of photos of a berserk motorist attacking a young bike-messenger in Toronto's Kensington Market. The incident reportedly began when the motorist tossed litter out his window, and the courier threw it back in; the motorist reportedly threw a cup of coffee on the courier and the courier reportedly keyed his car. The intrepid photographer calmly stood and fired off shot after shot of the motorist completely losing it, attacking the courier, screaming, and generally going nuts, and braved the man's charge with a baseball bat when he was noticed with his camera."
This guy obviously has some anger management issues.

Sewage Spills Are Nasty
Friday January 27, 2006

Interesting commentary article on the "small scale" sewage spill in Los Angeles comparing it to the massive sewage flow at the San Diego/Mexico border. The above picture is where the Tijuana river meets the ocean.

World Tracker turns anyone into a cellphone spy
Friday January 20, 2006
Holy crap, can you say invasion of privacy three times fast? Yeah, it's an easy sentence to spit out and just as easy as this cell phone tracking tool. Enter a phone number and it finds it's location using GSM cell tower data. First a text message is sent to the user and they have to allow tracking, however I'm sure a way around this will be invented...lucky for me it only works in the UK so far.

The Postal Service Angry With Apple
Friday January 20, 2006
It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers' new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for 'Such Great Heights' made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent. -Ben Gibbard, The Postal Service

Google + Facebook + alcohol = trouble
Friday January 20, 2006
Be careful what you post about yourself on The Facebook and MySpace if you still plan to get a job after college.
Christine Hirsch, president of Chicago Resources, a professional-services recruiting firm, says she regularly uses Google and other sites to check on candidates. In one instance, she found details about a candidate on a law school Web site describing disciplinary actions related to a fraternity prank involving public intoxication. The candidate, who had received a verbal offer (and who had disclosed a drunken-driving conviction in college), didn't get the job after the new information surfaced.

Motorola and Burton Launch the Audex Jacket Series
Friday January 20, 2006
Now you won't be able to tell the difference between the crazy bum at the park and a guy on his cell phone. Prices start at $599.

At the center of the Audex jacket is a control panel located on the left- hand sleeve, allowing for simple and easy access to your incoming and outgoing calls, and music selections. Connect a compatible Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone** to the panel wirelessly, while hooking up your iPodŽ player via hidden, unobtrusive wires within the jacket. Speakers and a microphone are located in the hood for taking and making calls as well as listening to music.

Drunk Elephant Goes On Rampage
Friday January 20, 2006
With Moscow experiencing the coldest spell for a generation, an animal trainer decided that in order to keep his elephant warm he would feed it a bucket of vodka. He may have succeeded in warming up the elephant but it quickly got drunk and proceeded to wreck the man's central heating system.
Also a zoo south of Moscow is feeding its monkeys wine in order to "protect against colds".

Making Money on the Internet
Tuesday January 17, 2006
Over the last year I've spent an increasing amount of time trying to figure out how I can make extra money to supplement my income. Obviously being a computer engineer the best route would seem to be online. These days more and more bloggers, and retailers are making a fortune from their websites. This website is more for fun than a money making opportunity, because this genre of website is already really impacted. However I wish to share what has worked for me so far, at least making this website pay for itself (and a little beer money on the side).
First and foremost, if you have any traffic at all, you must join Google Adsense. It's insanely easy, and by far generates the most income. Second to that would have to be Chitika MiniMalls. These fun little advertisements work fairly well if you have readers willing to click on retail sort of advertisements. Best of all you can target them to your focus audience. Finally, the last thing I've learned is that banner ads are pretty much out. They don't really work. At least for sites like mine. There are probably plenty of sites that pull off the big giant flashing banner ads and make money, but I'm guessing most do not. Especially the ones that pay only if a person clicks through, and BUYS something. Fat chance. I haven't gotten an invitation to BlogAds but I believe they would also work very well and is a definite option to explore.
Last, I found ProBlogger to be a very helpful site, and it's an interesting read. Good luck getting rich!
